Medical Secretary/ ED Scribes

United Health Services is seeking a Medical Secretary/Emergency Room Scribe to join our Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY. The Medical Secretary/ED Scribe will perform secretarial duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Duties will include scheduling appointments, billing patients, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence. This is a benefits eligible position

Salary range: $16.35 - $22.13/hour, depending on experience


Medical Secretary/ ED Scribes Overview

The ED Scribe works to facilitate patient flow through the Emergency Department, ensuring accurate and complete medical records for each patient. Assists the physician by accompanying him/her during the medical history and exam, recording details on the electronic medical record, EPIC, and coordinating department resources regarding tests, orders, radiology and results. Track orders for each patient, looks up previous records, and notifies physician of the results.

In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.

Position Qualifications


  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Experience with Medical Terminology in a Medical Setting


  • Previous experience in a clinical setting requiring
  • Experience with Basic Human Anatomy, Charting Basics and Coding Guidelines
