Central Scheduling - Access Care Representative, Johnson City

United Health Services is seeking an Access Care Representative to join our Central Scheduling team in Binghamton, NY. The Central Scheduling department schedules patients for appointments and confirms insurance information. This is a BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE position.

Salary range: $15.00 - $20.25/hour, depending on experience


Central Scheduling Representative Overview

The Central Scheduling Access Care Representative is required to schedule patients for appointments, confirm patient demographics, and insurance information. Ensures that patient accounts are handled appropriately and are resolved in a timely manner. Staff are monitored on their call volumes, and accuracy.

Central Scheduling Representative Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Completes scheduling appointments for patients and physician offices, as well as ensuring patients are pre-registered a minimum of two (2) business days prior to their scheduled appointment
  • Documents contact with insurance carrier, other staff or patient in Soarian Financial, along with result of pre-certification request. Documentation should include, but is not limited to: demographics and insurance information
  • Contacts physician, physician office, or patient to resolve issues regarding prior authorization or related information
  • Assigns health plans accurately and researches patient related encounters to ensure all assigned health plans are linked
  • Performs electronic eligibility confirmation and requests when applicable and documents results
  • Completes Medicare Secondary Payor Questionnaire as applicable for retention in Soarian
  • Contacts patient via phone (with as much advance notice as possible, preferably 48 hours prior to date of service) to confirm or obtain missing demographic information, and instruct patient on where to present at time of appointment
  • Communicates with Financial Advocacy Team as necessary to ensure prompt assistance with patients without insurance
  • Researches and appeals insurance carrier denials by reviewing denial reason codes to determine cause; updates encounter appropriately after denial cause is identified and allows encounters to be reprocessed for payment

Position Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with two (2) years’ experience in similar field


  • Associate’s Degree, or five (5) years’ equivalent experience in lieu of degree
  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA)
