United Health Services is seeking an Athletic Trainer to join our Orthopedic Center in Vestal, NY. Our Athletic Trainers offer an unparalleled continuum of care and are a strong part of the UHS Sports Medicine and Orthopedics teams.

Salary range: $22.13 - $33.21/hour, depending on experience


Athletic Trainer Position Overview

Working in a clinical setting, the successful Athletic Trainer candidate will work collaboratively with orthopedic and sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, and other Orthopedic Center team members to treat bone and joint injuries with therapeutic exercise and other courses of treatment.

United Health Services’ comprehensive Orthopedic Center helps patients with musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, often treating them before and after orthopedic surgery. Our providers and staff specialize in joint replacement, hand and wrist surgery, shoulder surgery, sports medicine, and physical therapy and rehabilitation. The UHS Orthopedic team is consistently recognized as the area’s top provider for joint replacement, performing more than 500 cases each year.

Athletic Trainer Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • In the Orthopedics office, document routine patient care activities including office intake, vital signs, patient history, and physical exams
  • Together with a physician or physical therapist, develop and implement care plans for bone and joint injuries that incorporate therapeutic exercise
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans and health promotion including home exercise programs and gait training
  • Collaborate with patients and families to coordinate care with other ancillary offices and providers
  • Properly fit patients for durable medical equipment and provide education
  • Apply, remove, or adjust casts, splints, braces, and sutures/staples
  • Participate in management of the Sports Medicine Hotline, answering calls and communicating with field Athletic Trainers and providers to schedule timely appointments for patients
  • Maintain continuing education requirements as determined by guidelines from the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer

Position Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree and completion of a CAATE-accredited athletic training program
  • ATC credential, or eligibility, from the Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer
  • Holder of, or eligibility for, a New York State Athletic Training License to practice as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)
  • Orthopaedic Technologist Certified (OTC) credential from the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists (NBCOT)
  • CPR certification within three months of hire

Preferred:

  • New York State EMS (or NREMT) Certification
  • Orthopaedic Technologist - Surgery Certified (OT-SC) credential from the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists (NBCOT)
  • Completion of an ATC as physician extender residency program
  • Previous experience working in an orthopedic office or operating room setting
