United Health Services is seeking an Athletic Trainer to join our outpatient Physical Therapy Department in Binghamton, New York. Our Athletic Trainers offer an unparalleled continuum of care and are a strong part of the UHS Sports Medicine team.

Salary range: $22.13 - $33.21/hour, depending on experience

Athletic Trainer Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Sports Medicine Field Manager, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with orthopedic and sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, and other team members to serve patients in the clinical setting and throughout the local community, which includes two colleges, 10 nearby high schools, and several club sports teams.

Dedicated to career development and education, United Health Services and the Sports Medicine Team often participate in conferences and community events to help staff build their networks and collaborate when it comes to best practices. In addition, we offer leadership development programming, free and extensive online training, wellness programs, and more.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Assist in routine patient care activities, as directed by the treating Physical Therapist/Physical Therapist Assistant, within the guidelines mandated by New York State’s Physical Therapy Practice Act
  • Participate in a community outreach program consisting of supportive athletic training services, educational programs, and pre-season screening programs
  • Provide athletic training services to designated educational institutions and assist in alternative coverage as needed
  • Together with a referring physician, develop and implement a plan of care for injured athletes
  • Regularly document injuries, follow-up care, and return-to-play information
  • Collaborate with the Sports Medicine Team to provide specialized athletic training services and effectively communicate with athletes, parents, coaches, athletic directors, and school nurses
  • Maintain continuing educational requirements as determined by guidelines from the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer

Position Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in athletic training from a CAATE-accredited athletic training program with successful completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) exam
  • CPR certification within three months of hire
  • Licensed or license eligibility for a New York State Athletic Training License (ATC)


  • Experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) in a college or high school setting
