Account Processor, Binghamton

United Health Services is seeking an Account Processor to join our Patient Accounting Team in Binghamton, NY. Provides financial, clerical and administrative services to ensure efficient, timely and accurate resolution of guarantor accounts. This is a BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE position.

Account Processor Overview

Provides financial, clerical and administrative services to ensure efficient, timely and accurate resolution of guarantor accounts. Responsible for tracking and collecting on overdue accounts and generating calls to patients daily.

Account Processor Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Contacts, initiates and follows-up on overdue open patient balances with patients via telephone with expectation to achieve and/or exceed collection goals. Resolutions may involve a full payment, partial payment, payment plan, financial assistance or a return to billing. Collection goals are set by management (open accounts divided by payment capture or account resolution rate).
  • Accepts payments from patients over the phone and process payments in the systems.
  • Monitors customer account details for non-payment, delayed payment and other irregularities.
  • Investigates and resolves customer queries.
  • Researches and resolves payment discrepancies.
  • Utilizes tools to locate viable mailing addresses and/or telephone #s to be able to reach guarantors.
  • Identifies problem accounts, researches issues, and resolves them in a timely manner. This may involve a referral to your teammates.
  • Responds timely and accurately to all incoming correspondence and inquires from patients and other appropriate parties.
  • Responds to phone calls and e-mails in an efficient and courteous manner.
  • Receives and answers inquiries or complaints concerning self pay accounts; gathers information for timely resolution of issues.
  • During reviewing of accounts makes adjustments when appropriate.
  • Will document on all accounts reviewed including actions taken.
  • Maintains call center standards by taking equal inbound and generating expected outbound call goals.
  • Maintains ongoing detailed knowledge of reimbursement regulations and third party billing practices.
  • Maintains a high level of accuracy and meets the department’s performance & productivity standards.
  • Prepares daily and monthly tracking reports.
  • Elevates issues, as appropriate, to team leader or supervisor.

Position Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3 years’ experience with hospital or physician third party and government billing practices.

Preferred:

  • Formal education in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or related field.
