  • Position Overview
    • The Sr. Benefits Specialist will assist in the coordination and communication of benefits programs (medical, life, disability, dental, retirement, education benefits, etc.) for UHS. This position will provide direct counseling to employees on all types of benefits coverage, including healthcare and retirement. The Sr. Benefits Specialist will work with senior management and benefit vendors to resolve benefit issues regarding eligibility, claims, and retirement benefits and ensures compliance with legal and tax requirements. Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Total Rewards, incumbent will assist with communications and process management of health and welfare including medical, dental, vision, tax savings accounts, life and disability insurance, retirement, pension and wellbeing programs. The incumbent will act as the lead for administration of annual Open Enrollment and ensures operational and customer service excellence for all plan participants.
  • Position Requirements
    • Education/Experience
      • Minimum Required:
        • BA/BS degree and minimum 2-4 years of employee benefits and retirement plan experience or 5-7 years of HR experience specifically supporting the UHS organization.
        • Experience with HR communications and change management for organization announcements.
        • Analysis skills to support decision making on benefits items (plan features, new programs, exceptions.
        • Vendor management and coordination of meetings, calls to collaborate on plan administration with third parties.
        • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state regulations related to Human Resources.
        • Ability to be both strategic and hands-on.
      • Preferred:
        • MBA or Master’s degree, CBP certification in benefits, certification in Human Resources (SHRM-CP, PHR) Experience with HR systems and database reporting tools.
        • Benefits regulatory knowledge and ability to apply these rules to administration/compliance of plans, including FMLA, NYPFL, ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, Social Security and DOL requirements.
        • Strong understanding of benefit programs (healthcare, retirement (403(b), pension, wellness,) as well as the ability to design and implement innovations within a collaborative environment.
