Rehabilitation Counselor

United Health Services is seeking a Rehabilitation Counselor to join our Binghamton General in Binghamton, NY. The RC is responsible To Provide the highest quality clinical care in the area of Behavioral Health in the service areas of assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, group therapy, individual therapy, and vocational assessments. This is a benefits eligible position

To Provide the highest quality clinical care in the area of Behavioral Health in the service areas of assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, group therapy, individual therapy, and vocational assessments.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Interacts with individuals, families, and other agencies in a cooperative and effective manner to determine issues and assist in the development of coping skills and progress related to treatment goals. Understands and respects patient rights and confidences as outlined by HIPAA Laws and UHS policy and procedures.
  • Identifies learning needs of patient/family/support systems, providing education in treatment compliance, specific mental illness diagnosis, smoking cessation, and importance of follow-up care for positive outcomes.
  • Provides support as an interdisciplinary team member to assigned unit with Daily attendance at treatment planning as well as other assigned committees PRN.
  • Initiates and maintains appropriate and accurate documentation as required by UHS policy as well as procedure and completion of rehabilitation treatment goals/interventions on individualized care plans of each patient within 3 days of admission.
  • Designs and delivers therapeutic groups and or individual counselling to Behavioral Health units/patients on topics within scope of practice.
  • Works with patients and their representative to establish or maintain their connection to work, school and outpatient services.

Position Qualifications


  • Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling or Creative Arts Therapy


  • Previous experience in an inpatient psychiatric setting requiring knowledge of DSM V


Minimum Required:

  • Licensed as a Mental Health Counselor or Creative Arts Therapist in New York State or eligible to be licensed
  • Holds a license in another state with reciprocity with New York State. New York license is a requirement within 4 months of hire date
