Registered Nurse (RN) Orthopedics, Vestal Parkway, NY

United Health Services is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our United Health Services Orthopedic Department. The Orthopedic Center is located at 4433 Vestal Pkwy, East Vestal, NY 13850 and is 6 years old and houses a new, state of the art Physical Therapy Department including a gym. The Musculoskeletal team works together, all under one roof. The Orthopedic department is open 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday through Friday. This is a Full Time Benefits Eligible Position.

Salary range: $30.54-45.82/hour, depending on experience

Orthopedic RN Overview

The Orthopedic Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response and through advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance to all standards of practice and professional development in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services Hospitals and Nursing Division policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.

Orthopedic RN Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Coordinates clinical training, orientation and ongoing evaluation of new/existing urgent care clinical staff as well as completion and submission of clinical competencies at time of hire and annually.
  • In collaboration with the supervisor, coordinates urgent care clinical schedules, ensuring appropriate clinical support for extended hours of the urgent care facility.
  • The RN provides clinical leadership staff while overseeing the scope of practice of LPN’s and Medical Assistants in the urgent care setting.
  • Triages and assesses acutely ill patients for early identification of signs and symptoms to prevent complications and ensure timely intervention of acutely ill patients.
  • Educates patient and family in health promotion and disease management using available resources.
  • Utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology and safely administers medications according to UHS Hospitals policy.
  • Maintains CLIA Waived Lab standards and performs CLIA Waived Lab testing and oversees proficiency validation according to regulatory standards, Includes oversight of tri-annual AAFP Lab Proficiency testing, lab quality controls and Lab credentialing.
  • Collaborates and leads patients, families and all members of the health Care Team in coordinating patient care.
  • Participates in educational opportunities and in collaboration with the unit coordinator, assists in providing information updates and acts as a resource for all clinical staff.
  • Surgical scheduling as necessary.

Position Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Graduated of an accredited school of registered nursing
  • At least 1 year experience in health care setting with evidence of having obtained proficiency in those areas emphasized in the Registered Nurse curriculum
  • Current NY State RN license
  • Documentation of current CPR certification required within 1 week of start of employment.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a primary care/ specialty care setting.
