United Health Services is seeking a Medical Receptionist to join our Neurosurgery practice in Johnson City, NY. This is a benefits-eligible position.

Shift: Days, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Hours per week: 40
Salary: $15 - $20.25/hour, depending on experience


Medical Receptionist Position Overview

Medical Receptionists provide exceptional customer service for our patients. Working with other employees, nurses, and providers, the Medical Receptionist plays a key role is helping patients have a seamless experience during their visit. In addition to interacting with patients, the Medical Receptionist also performs office functions such as registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and billing.

The UHS Neurosurgery practice sees patients, typically before and after surgery, who are suffering from neurological conditions and injuries inclusive of back pain and other spinal problems. Our neurosurgery team works to diagnose and treat disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and spinal column, and conducts both in-depth and minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures to alleviate patients’ pain.

Medical Receptionist Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Greet patients with a positive and friendly approach at every interaction
  • Provide quality service by phone, electronic messaging, or in person; perform registration, scheduling, and insurance verification per policy with attention to detail
  • Stay aware of patient wait times and work with the healthcare team to provide updated information regarding delays
  • Answer patient questions and provide information that is compliant with HIPAA guidelines
  • Balance financial drawer at the end of each day and analyze the financial work list, taking corrective actions as directed
  • Maintain awareness of supplies and restock/order as necessary
  • Promote and facilitate compliance with the Joint Commission, New York State Department of Health, Infection Control, and all organizational/regulatory policies and procedures
  • Treat all patients, family, and other visitors with respect and compassion
  • Demonstrate commitment to United Health Services’ organizational Values of Compassion, Trust, Respect, Teamwork, and Innovation

Position Qualifications

Minimum Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Previous administrative or customer services experience
  • Proficient PC skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Current driver license
