Learning and Development Specialist Overview

The Learning and Development specialist is responsible for increasing competency and capability levels within UHS through the establishment and delivery of learning and development processes, programs and practices. The role leverages in-depth learning and development knowledge and experience to contribute to solutions and services that are aligned with both UHS’ business goals and HR’s objectives and result in trained employees who are able to perform their jobs well and meet role requirements while also helping them with their career growth and development. The position focuses on managing the overall standards and principles with the Learning and Development function and establishing learning approaches and philosophies, monitoring their execution, and measuring competency levels. This role constantly works with multiple HR stakeholders including the HRBPs, Employee Engagement specialist and also works closely with other training resources and leadership to ensure consistent application of tools, programs and practices across the organization, such as LMS utilization, in order to promote process and practice standardization that achieves both cost savings and improved operational performance.

The role also requires conducting several training programs for employees and leaders across the organization and would require using technology to set metrics and track and measure effective implementation of training initiatives using learning platform skills and adult learning principles.

Learning and Development Specialist Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Actively contributes to the execution of Learning and Development portfolio across the key stakeholder groups and analyzes its overall effectiveness in increasing organizational capabilities and achieving business results
  • Implements effective learning strategies, and training programs to help employees progress well in their careers and stay on top of their current roles and requirements
  • Provides high-level consulting support to the Human Resource Business Partner group and business/hospital unit leaders in the development of competitive learning strategies that develop the right capabilities and competencies within their employee population(s)
  • Provides inputs into Developing a UHS’ organization-wide personal and professional training plan and curriculum, including the various trainings needed and the most appropriate method(s) to deliver these
  • Ensures there is Governance followed for the design, update, and implementation of both in-house and vendor-provided training programs, providing expertise in what the most appropriate delivery method(s) for these would be such as classroom, individual, self-paced, and computer-based training
  • Evaluates training programs to track their effectiveness against cost and proficiency goals for the respective business/hospital unit; recommends improvements to better align training methods and goals to overall learning strategy
  • Keeps abreast with industry trends and the market environment; incorporates technical expertise, best practices and business imperatives in developing strategies, processes, tools and programs for key components of competency and capability growth
  • Reviews and improves integration between different learning programs and processes in order to enhance delivery efficiency and effectiveness
  • Collaborates with the HRBPs and Training System administrator along with other training resources within the organization to gain a detailed understanding of Learning & Development needs and goals
  • Serves as a resource for any Learning and Development-related issues, questions or initiatives

Position Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major study in Human Resources, Human Services, Counseling, Psychology, Philosophy , Legal Studies, or related field.
  • Five years of experience in training, leadership development, Human Resources, Human Services, Counseling, Employee Engagement, Legal Studies or related field.
  • 3 years of experience specifically in conducting training sessions both virtual/in-person

Preferred:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Human Resources, Human Services, Psychology, Counseling, or related field specifically relating to healthcare.
  • Knowledge of professional training standards, competency development, training design and adult learning principles
  • Experience in actual designing and conducting training programs in multiple topics for overall employee and leadership development and meeting the competency standards of the organization
  • Experience in using technology, e-learning and other learning systems including workday to deliver and track learning initiatives
  • Experience working in Healthcare organization in a training or any other clinical role is an additional advantage
  • ATD certification or equivalent
  • Virtual learning certification
