Diabetes Nurse Educator- $10K Sign-On Bonus

United Health Services is seeking a Diabetes Nurse Educator to join our Binghamton General in Binghamton, NY. The Diabetes Nurse Educator establishes long-term commitments and knows patients very well. Responsibilities include instruction on foot and skin care, and appropriate diet; monitoring of blood glucose; and administration of insulin. This is a full-time position.

Salary range: $27.84 - $41.26 base pay, depending on experience

Diabetes Nurse Educator Overview

Diabetes nurse educator specializes in providing care and guidance for patients with Type I, Type II and gestational diabetes, working with individuals or with groups. The educators teach about the causes, pathophysiology and signs and symptoms of diabetes.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Develops and provides one-on-one and group educational programs for patients with diabetes in the outpatient and inpatient setting based on the American Diabetic Association (ADA) guidelines.
  • Educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management
  • Evaluates outcomes of the education provided.
  • Collaborates and leads patients, families, and all members of the health care team in coordinating patient care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Promotes diabetes awareness within the organization and the community
  • Assists to maintain credentialing of the UHS Diabetes and Endocrinology Center with the American Diabetes Association

Position Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing
  • At least 2-year experience in health care setting with evidence of having obtained proficiency in those areas emphasized in the Registered Nurse curriculum
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a walk in / primary care/ specialty care setting

License/Certification

Minimum Required:

  • Current NY State RN license.
  • Documentation of current CPR certification required within 1 week of start of employment.
  • Certified Diabetes Educator within 2 years of hire

Preferred:

  • Current driver’s license
  • Office specific- IE: Oncology Cert, Lactation Consultant, Wound / Ostomy Cert
