Cost Accountant, Binghamton

United Health Services is seeking a Cost Accountant to join our Financial Planning & Analysis team in Binghamton, NY. This is a BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE position.

Cost Accountant Overview

  • Under the direction of the Director of Financial Planning, provide support for the Financial Planning Department whose activities include budgeting, forecasting, operations/business analysis, development and maintenance of cost accounting systems, and financial analysis support to executives, directors, and managers within the UHSH system.

Cost Accountant Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Under the direction of the Manager of Financial Planning and in conjunction with the Decision Support Lead Analyst, develops financial assumptions, and creates financial reports and indicators needed to implement the Decision Support System (DSS) including data analysis, statistical reports, and reimbursement and expense components. After initial implementation, supports the decision support financial functions, including the appropriate cost, budgeting and reimbursement assumptions, and provides training to DSS users.
  • Assists the Director of Financial Planning in collaborating with Business Intelligence in developing and maintaining the Decision Support System as it relates to budgeting and cost accounting.
  • Prepares statistical reports, maintain financial databases, and prepares financial reports in support of the review and analysis of reimbursement and rate methodologies.
  • Supports the development of the annual operating plan and departmental budgeting process.
  • Supports the activities of the UHSH Planning & Budgeting (P&B) Committee as needed.
  • Assists in the preparation and creation of profit and loss statements for costing.
  • Assists managers in the preparation of departmental budgets as requested.
  • Prepares routine payroll and CM I reports.
  • Responsible for file preparation for the location departments and all supporting tables in the cost accounting system. Provides all validation support to the cost accounting reconciliation.

Position Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration
  • 5-7 years of accounting experience

Preferred:

  • 2-3 years of accounting in a healthcare environment
  • Prior cost accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of New York State reimbursement regulations
  • Experience in preparing Medicare and Medicaid cost reports
  • Proficiency in Excel, Lotus 123, and various other related personal computer software
  • Experience with Crystal Reports and Excel Cubes
