Coordinator Patient Accounts, Binghamton

United Health Services is seeking a Patient Accounts Coordinator to join our Revenue Cycle Team in Binghamton, NY. The Patient Accounts Coordinator collects and processes data for the hospital’s inpatient billing registration and verification operations. This is a BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE position.

Coordinator Patient Accounts Overview

Submits various third party and direct patient billings. Perform resolution of billing inquires and complaints. Promote positive patient relations by assisting patients, families of patients, staff, and third party payors with inquiries concerning charges and reimbursements in a timely accurate manner. Expedite collections of accounts receivable.

Coordinator Patient Accounts Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Performs processing activities for verification, proper financial screening and securing of deposits as required at time of admissions for hospital patients in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures. This includes verifying at time of admission the patient’s accurate insurance coverage and screening to ensure that Registration secured assignment of insurance benefits, authorizations, billing forms, as required.
  • Prepares and inputs on-line adjustments to insurance information and demographic data as required.
  • Interviews patients who have no third party insurance coverage. Provides financial counseling and advice, and referral to patient Advocates or Collection for payment arrangements.
  • Resolves telephone and walk-in inquiries regarding billing, insurance, hospital policies, medical procedures, and costs.
  • Adjustments and correspondence that do not require pre-approval by supervisor and prepare and input on-line adjustments to charges and reimbursement data as required.
  • Supplies insurance information to physicians or other medical providers upon request. Provide any requested information to insurance companies with appropriate authorizations.
  • Files accounts receivable documents and records, maintains orderly filing system for accounts processed.
  • Estimates charges for cosmetic surgery cases and collect deposits in advance of surgery.
  • Reviews medical and financial records to audit patient bills, at the request of patients, staff, or third party payors. Takes appropriate measures to coordinate the necessary correction and/or explanation.
  • Prepares various operational reports, logs, and statistical data.

Position Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, 3 years hospital experience in accounts receivable or related field.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in hospital admissions, registration and verification practices and procedures for third party billing. Collection and inpatient billing experience.
