Contract Specialist, UHS

United Health Services is seeking a Contract Specialist to join our Procurement team in Binghamton, NY. This is a benefits-eligible position.

Salary range: $24.75 – $37.13/hour, depending on experience


Contract Specialist Position Overview

Manages all procurement contracts for the UHS system and will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and maintaining these contracts. Acts as liaison for all Value Analysis teams. Guides system personnel in understanding and implementing of all contracting opportunities & standardization.

Contract Specialist Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Serves as a resource to support activities of all Value Analysis teams.
  • Performs special projects focused on cost saving opportunities to include standardization, contract analysis, patient care preference requests and utilization.
  • Utilizes multiple information systems (PMM, Ntracts, Vizient, Lotus, Excel, Supply Chain Analytics, pricing, and data benchmarking tools) to complete duties including ensuring contract negotiations, cost savings/purchasing analysis and Value Analysis team activities. Performs essential purchasing functions such as contract compliance, purchasing history/trends/usage and contract management.
  • Communicates effectively with multiple customers to include vendor representatives, Vizient account representatives, representatives of healthcare facilities as part of the Purchasing Coalition, Senior Management, Legal Counsel, Finance, Patient Care Services, Pharmacy, Central Warehouse, SPD, Lab, OR, Cath Lab, Legal counsel and all other departments within UHS and all other UHS system members, Medical Surgical distributor.
  • Meets regularly with vendors and GPO representatives to review all aspects of contracts (negotiate terms, prices, and rebates) to optimize contracts and cost savings opportunities.
  • Works with Sourcing Specialists and Purchasing Agents to ensure all contracts and prices are managed properly.
  • Develops and generates statistical data, analysis tools and system reports in coordination with System Analytics and System Administrator as required by the System Director of Procurement, as well as Financial and Senior Management.
  • Manages a master list of system contracts and agreements regularly prioritizing based on ending expiration date and coordinates next steps with owning department.

Position Qualifications


  • Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in business or related field and 5 years procurement/contract experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or healthcare related field
  • Experience in a contract and system support role for materials management, purchasing, or financial system environment
