Assistant Coordinator of Nursing Quality and Safety, Wilson Medical Center/Binghamton General Hospital Johnson City/Binghamton, NY

United Health Services is seeking a Registered Nurse to join Wilson Medical Center and Binghamton General Hospital in Johnson City/ Binghamton, NY. This is a BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE/Salaried Position, 32-40 hours / week.

Salary range: $37.40 - $56.10 depending on experience

Overview

The assistant coordinator of Nursing Quality and Safety employs strategies and interventions to help various patient populations decrease their risk never – events or hospital acquired sequala, implement best practice interventions, and evaluate efficacy of current quality improvement initiatives. The assistant coordinator works collaboratively with Nursing Leadership including the vice President of Nursing, Directors of Nursing and Nurse Managers. Reports to the Coordinator of Nursing Safety and Quality and collaborates with Quality Management. The Assistant Coordinator analyzes data, identifies opportunities for improvement, and provides educational feedback utilizing the care facilitation model to drive improvement. The coordinator will assist in evidence - based practice improvements and work towards sustainability of new initiatives. Initial primary focus will be on Falls prevention and Safe Patient Handling.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Works in conjunction with Chief Nursing Officer / Vice President Patient Care Services, Coordinator of Nursing Safety and Quality, Directors of Nursing, and Quality Management and UHS System members. Reviews regulatory requirements from Joint Commission, Department of Health, and CMS as they apply to Patient Care Services (PCS)
  • Collaborates with Coordinator of Nursing Safety and Quality and with Quality Management to identify quality issues.
  • Participates in multiple interdisciplinary committee which focus on quality, fall prevention, and safe patient handling. Analyzes data and reports from these committees to identify areas of improvement for Patient Care Services.
  • Works with Nursing Leadership to implement plans which will facilitate improvement in areas identified.
  • Acts as a resource and consultant to nurse managers, nursing staff, and nursing education staff. Participates in unit specific quality improvement plans using the PDSA model and implements rapid action plans as needed and supports sustainability for action plans.
  • Participates in and supports Nursing councils, committees, and leadership meetings by providing performance improvement data, updates form special projects, updates related to regulatory issues, nursing practice issues and other meetings that impact the falls prevention program.
  • Assists with NDNQI program. Reviews data from these reports to make recommendations to Chief Nursing Officer, DONs, and Coordinator of Nursing Safety and Quality on nurse - sensitive quality issues.
  • Acts as a resource and consultant to Nursing Education and Professional Practice related to educational requirements, policy and procedure updates, and form changes that will require education for all nursing staff.

Position Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing
  • 3 years’ experience in a hospital setting to include background in clinical operation and quality improvement.
  • Experience in data analysis and process improvement.
  • Current New York State license as a Registered Nurse
  • CPR within 3 Months of Hire
