Account Processor, Binghamton

United Health Services is seeking an Account Processor to join our Patient Accounting Team in Binghamton, NY. An Account Processor reviews claim status and resolves edits that are preventing the claim from billing. This is a Full Time position.

Salary range: $16.79 - $22.71/hour, depending on experience

Account Processor Overview

Under direct supervision of the Patient Accounting Supervisor, reviews account receivables in various work lists, resolving system edits that are preventing claims from billing and reviewing outstanding balances due from multiple third party payers. Has a thorough understanding of accepted billing and payment practices.

Account Processor Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Reviews claim status and resolves edits that are preventing the claim from billing
  • Using Aging work lists, contacts payers for claim status and re-bills/adjusts open balances, as necessary
  • Initiates contact with third party payers, as indicated.
  • Reviews electronic claim rejection reports and takes appropriate action based on the rejection provided by payer; ensures that claims are corrected and resubmitted timely.
  • Reviews claims and payments to ensure correct reimbursement from third party payers based on the knowledge and understanding of charge entry.
  • Documents thoroughly any action taken on encounters in the accounting system.
  • Recommends and forwards refund requests for approval and processing.
  • Updates patient registration, as necessary, to ensure the proper insurance is billed timely.
  • Maintains patient and employee confidentiality
  • Performs other duties at other locations as assigned based upon the needs of UHS

Position Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience working on a professional level with staff and third party payers while efficiently managing high work volume in a fast paced work environment

Preferred:

  • A minimum of one (1) of year experience in a health care billing office
